The MantaInk handbook

How can we help?

Answers for writing with Manta the Scribe, building your world, and everything around it.

Contents

New here? The whole idea, in three steps.

  1. Start a world

Pick a fantasy, sci-fi or horror starter, begin blank, or bring the manuscript you already have.

  2. Talk to Manta

Ask questions, brainstorm, draft. Drag a character into the chat so Manta knows exactly who you mean — on a phone, type the name.

  3. Keep what you like

Apply the suggestions you want, then Commit to save a version of your world you can always come back to.

When you see this message

What it means, in plain words, and what to do next.

“someone else changed this while you were editing — reload and reapply your change”
Someone else, or you in another tab, saved the same thing first. Reload and make your change again; nothing was overwritten.
“the project changed while this write was in flight — retry”
Someone switched the project’s branch just as you saved. Try again.
“is locked — complete earlier chapters first”
Chapters unlock in order. Until the ones before it are finished, a chapter takes planning only — titles, summaries, outline scenes, point of view and subplots. More
“Limit reached”
That credit allowance is used up for now. What you can do
“no model configured for task profile …”
No AI model is set up for that kind of work. Choose one in Settings › AI Models, or add a key in Settings › API Keys.
“Needs an internet connection”
You’re offline in the Windows app. Everything you write is saved on your computer; this part of MantaInk comes back when you’re online. What works offline
“Viewers can't edit. Ask the owner for editor access.”
You’re a viewer on this project: you can read it and ask Manta about it, but not change it. Ask an owner to make you an editor. What each role can do
